An understrength Sean O'Mahony's first team were beaten by 4 points by Dreadnots in the Paddy Sheelan Cup in Clogherhead on Sunday evening, in what was a tough but entertaining match. The Dundalk side started off very brightly, dominating the first 10 minutes with 2 great points from Conor Mackin and Stephen Fisher, with 3 half goal chances blocked by the home side. Dreadnots then scored 1-3 without reply before the water break to take control of the game. Three left footed points in a row from Danny O'Brien, Stephen Fisher and Stephen Kilcoyne brought the green and gold side back in the game to leave them trailing at halftime on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-5. Following another wonderful Stephen Kilcoyne point from play, Mark Agnew drilled the ball just over the bar for the equalizer. However the home side then took control of the game with some well taken scores, and although Terry Kelly kicked 2 wonderful points and Conor Martin landed one of his trademark outside of the foot floaters just over the crossbar from 50 yards out, the Clogherhead lads were ahead by 1-11 to 10 points at the final whistle. There was some great displays from all around the field and it,s great to see the new blood of Conor Mackin, Mark Agnew, Callum Smith, Sean Cassidy and Graham Stevens fit in seamlessly in their first year in the squad, while Robbie Galligan was immense once again, bravely battling for every ball at full back.
